Viva Voce is one of Sheffield's finest chamber choirs. Critically acclaimed for the exceptional quality of its singing and an original approach to interpretation and performance, the choir has built up a wide-ranging and challenging repertoire since it started in 1997. Viva Voce concerts offer a unique musical experience where lesser-known music gets an airing and choral classics are given a makeover. The choir currently has a membership of around twenty singers, all experienced musicians living in and around Sheffield.
Saturday 4th July 2015
‘Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Chip the glasses and crack the plates!*
That’s what ..... Viva Voce with special guests the Peak District Youth Choir, WON'T be doing at David Mellor's Visitor Centre, Hathersage, on Saturday 4th July. But they will be singing there in a new collaborative venture that coincides with the start of David Mellor's Summer Sale and Hathersage Gala Week .
They will perform an eclectic programme of music, weaving together various strands: celebrating the Summer Solstice - midsummer love and marriage with evocative and humorous arrangements from the Balto-Finnic tradition; music of work and creative cultural industries from home and abroad; nature and agriculture, folk inspired music and much, much more. One highlight will be a joint performance of numbers from Les Miserables and Sondheim Musicals. This hearty main course will be followed by a dessert menu of songs by Gershwin and Porter and other classics from the Great American songbook.
So, an evening of entrancing and exciting musical entertainment with refreshments and retail therapy opportunities........what’s not to like? We hope that you can join the party.
