Viva Voce under some arches

Viva Voce is one of Sheffield's finest chamber choirs. Critically acclaimed for the exceptional quality of its singing and an original approach to interpretation and performance, the choir has built up a wide-ranging and challenging repertoire since it started in 1997. Viva Voce concerts offer a unique musical experience where lesser-known music gets an airing and choral classics are given a makeover. The choir currently has a membership of around twenty singers, all experienced musicians living in and around Sheffield.

‘Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Chip the glasses and crack the plates!*
That’s what ..... Viva Voce WON'T be doing at David Mellor's Visitor Centre, Hathersage, on Saturday 4th July. But we will be singing there in a new collaborative venture that coincides with the start of David Mellor's Summer Sale and Hathersage Gala Week.

Viva Voce will perform an eclectic programme of music, weaving together various strands: celebrating the Summer Solstice - midsummer love and marriage with evocative and humorous arrangements from the Baltic tradition; music of work and creative industries from home and abroad; nature and agriculture and much, much more. This hearty main course will be followed by a dessert menu of songs by Gershwin and Porter and other classics from the Great American songbook.

Please visit our website again soon for more details about this musical entertainment with food, drink and retail therapy opportunities........what’s not to like? We hope that you can join the party.

*The Dwarves Cutlery Song from J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit

We’re looking for singers who enjoy wide-ranging and challenging repertoire and can make an effective contribution in a small group.
Rehearsal night: Thursdays (not every week)
